INTRODUCTION

Nurses are the backbones of health care services. They are the ones who are always ready to meet the health care needs of growing number of patients. The profession of nursing is now recognized as a respectable autonomous profession where nurses serve and collaborate with physicians and other health care professionals. Realizing the need of time the governing bodies under the charter of Baqai Medical University took the initiative for the establishment of Baqai College of Nursing. It first started with a three year diploma program for females at the Nazimabad Campus in the year 1986.

Baqai College of Nursing is registered by Pakistan Nursing Council. As a provider of quality education Baqai College of Nursing compares with the international standards. It offers educational programs in accordance with the actual needs of the society both in Pakistan and in the neighboring world. Here students are groomed with nursing competencies along with a strongly developed personality. It brings forth the leaders who can contribute and improve the development of health care services in Pakistan.

It provides all those facilities which commands the nursing educational requirements such as large and spacious lecture halls, air conditioned class rooms, equipped skill lab, computer lab, tutorial rooms, student lounge, science lab, female hostel, transport, qualified faculty members, library, and cafeteria etc. Besides the educational activities like clinical and community visits, it also indulges its students in co-curricular activities. Baqai College of Nursing is a career builder in the field of nursing.

Initially it started with RN (Diploma) and Post – RN B.Sc. Nursing programs. Two batches of RN students and two batches of Post – RN BScN passed out from these programs. Later Baqai College of Nursing introduced four years B.S. Nursing Program in the year 2003. Since then, this college is in progress with increasing number of newly admitted students. Six batches of BS Nursing students have graduated from Baqai College of Nursing. Up till now over 114 degrees of B.S. Nursing students, 18 degrees and 28 degrees of Post – RN B.Sc. have been awarded to the students.

Baqai College of Nursing was initially established in the year 1986 with the RN Diploma at Nazimabad campus, yet it started Generic BS Nursing in the year 2003. It is a place where professionalism is built among future nurses. It executes under the authority of Baqai Medical University known for its uniqueness and community services.

Baqai College of Nursing offers a close and supportive team of faculty members and admin staff for the students. Its code of conduct follows the rules and regulation imposed by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC). It is a college registered by the PNC therefore the passed out nurses are PNC’s licensed nurses. It provides all the required facilities to the students.

Six batches of BS Nursing students have graduated from Baqai College of Nursing. These graduates are serving both at the national and international level.

On completion of the BSN program the graduate of Baqai College of Nursing (BCON) shall be able to:

Apply scientific and practical knowledge to develop nursing processes to perform quality systematic patient-centered care.
Demonstrate professional and ethical behavior in discharging responsibilities of nursing.
Work effectively in multidisciplinary teams to solve nursing problems relevant to their field.
Create awareness regarding the impact of nursing on families and societies through research and development.
