The sad demise of Prof. Fareeduddin Baqai created a huge vacuum in education and healthcare sector of Pakistan. He was pioneer of medical education in the private sector and his role and contribution are widely acknowledged. The President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain expressed his heart felt grief with Mrs. Baqai.
The president congratulated the graduating students and their parents on successful completion of education from BMU, a leading university, and a symbol of hard work, passion and devotion. While addressing the degree recipients he said that it is just the beginning of your career and you should strive hard to achieve goals and serve the community. He added that during whole educational career you have learned community based medical education. Thus your motto should be “to serve the community and mankind”. The President further emphasized that there is no benefit of knowledge if it does not help you and other people.
Earlier, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zahida Baqai, in her welcome address, highlighted the vision and dream of her husband late Prof. Fareeduddin Baqai, for establishing the community oriented medical institution in the outskirt of Karachi to provide quality healthcare service and medical education at their doorstep. Since the inception of BMU in 1996 up till now about 5000 students have been graduated and serving the communities in Pakistan and abroad. To strengthen the research culture the university is also offering the postgraduate degree programs in Medical, Dental and Pharmaceutical discipline. She added that BMU is the premier institute of medical education in private sector. She emphasized on promoting medical education and said that it can only be possible if the private sector is encouraged and facilitated. She stated that more than 3000 medical and 1400 dental surgeons have been passed out from BMU. The number of degree recipients in this convocation is 824 including 12 Ph.Ds, 46 M.Phils and 4 M.Ds.
Seventy-six graduates earned gold medals on their excellent academic performance. A student of Dental College Dr. Aisha Rizwan grabbed 8 gold medals. Thereafter Medical College passed out students Dr. Mehwish Jabeen and Dr. Uroos Zawar Khan earned three gold medals each.
The Chief Gust awarded 22 Gold Medals to the Best Graduates and Position Holder.
