The Fatima Hospital is the main teaching hospital of Baqai Medical University and situated within the premises of Baqai University. The Hospital’s out patient Department was established in 1994 and consisted of the following specialties:

1996:

In1996 the Hospital was shifted to its present premises and its Inpatient department was establish and initially consisted of 212 beds, comprising of 50, General Medicine, 50 General Surgery including Orthopaedics, 50 Gynaecology & Obstetrics, 30 Paediatrics, 10 ENT AND 5 each of Ophthalmology and Fascio-maxillary surgery in addition to a 6 bedded ICU/CCU to Cater the serious and post operative cases. A 6 bedded Accident and Emergency department was opened for round the clock service to the patients.

1998:

In March 1998, the new Trauma Centre was established that include an Intensive Care Unit and new Operation Theaters. The Centre is designed so that the ambulances are as close as possible to the 12 beds that can be extended to 16 beds if the need arises.
The ENDOSCOPY unit under the department of Medicine started in May. The unit has performed nearly 1400 endoscopies so far

1999:

A comprehensive TUBERCULOSIS CONTROL PROJECT was launched with a separate TB out patient clinic. Salient features of the project include complete data collection, registration of all the cases and provision of FREE drugs. Registered patient are followed the collaboration with Primary Health Centre and Community Health Workers of the University till the completion of Therapy. An 8 beeded TB Isolation unit was opened attached to the project to look after the Open Cases of TB.

2002:

In March 2002, a new Children’s’ Wing was established on the first floor of the hospital; its bed capacity was later increased from 50 to 114 beds. The Children’s Wing includes a 12 beeded Nursery with neonatal unit which consists of 6 Incubators, an Intensive Care Unit which consist of 6 beds, a 6 beeded Diarrhea unit and a 6 bedded isolation ward. General ward consist of 25 beds and Paediatric Surgery unit 25 beds as well. In addition, there are 8 private rooms consisting of 2 beds each, thus making the Wing a complete Children Hospital in itself.

2003:

In the year 2003, the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Wing was further expended that increased the bed capacity from 50 beds to 124 beds. The newly built unit is located on the first floor of the hospital. It has 50 bedded Gynaecology ward, 50 bedded Obstetrics ward and 3 private rooms each with 2 beds. The Wing is completely equipped with operation theatres and a labor room consisting of 10 Beds including 6 observation beds. The Department has its own 8 bedded Intensive Care Unit.

2004:

In January 2004, the department of Medicine, which originally consisted of 50 beds, was expanded and a new medical unit was established on the first floor of the hospital. The Department now consists of 30 bedded female general wards. A fully equipped 6 bedded CCU/ICU. The new ENDOSCOPY UNIT with facilities for both upper and lower GI studies is under construction. A new TB isolation ward is also under construction.
In May the new ORTHOPAEDIC UNIT of 50 beds was opened thus increasing the total beds in Surgery and allied from 50 to 100.
In June 2004 a PHYSIOTHERPAY DEPARTMENT and SCHOOL of PHYSIOTHERAPY was established. The unit consists of 25 beds and run the OPD on daily basis. The school will start in January 2005.

2005:

Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Medicine was established. The department has so for produced 7 batches. The fresh passed out are being offered House Jobs in year 2015, very few departments offering the same. The unit is offering services to outpatients as well as in- patients. The unit is comprehensive with cubicles having 25 beds/couches.

2015:

1. Diabetic Clinic and Diabetic Foot Clinic: Specialty clinics are added to expend the scope of tertiary care. The Diabetic and Diabetic foot clinic started twice a week under Specialist, not only in Internal Medicine but also in Diabetes and Endocrinology.
2. Cardiac Clinic: The clinic with ECG, Echocardiography and ETT service is started. This is not only helping the out patients for screening but also providing on-site services to in-patients. Fatima Hospital which started with 212 beds by the grace of almighty Allah has now 500 beds that include all the major specialities and sub-specialities.

Physiotherapy

At time progressed, the number of patients attending the hospital also grew. This may be evidenced by the fact that in 1994, when established, the OPD catered for 9,000 patients whereas in 2003 the total increased to 6,500.Total numbers of operations in 1996 where 600 and 2003 the total operations were 2,285.Numbers of deliveries in 1996 was 100 and 2003 it was 577, these are the delivery within hospital and does not include the deliveries conducted by trained Lady Health Worker of the University in Goths and Village



Going through the services provided by Fatima Hospital to the poor and needy absolutely free of charge the provisional government selected the hospital for provision of ZAKAT (Religiously, contribution in term of money from rich to poor people) and requested the University to help the community even further. The Baqai University as a policy does not accept the donation and is purely reflection of self reliance “The Baqai Model”. The University accepted the offer as a right of the poor and needy.
Fatima Hospital started with 10 Doctors now has 140 Doctors this include 13 Professor, 10 Associate Professors, 13 Postgraduate trainees 13 Resident Medical Officers and 50 House Officers. Needles say that, the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council College of Physician and Surgeons recognize the hospital for Undergraduate as well as postgraduate training.
There is more than 175 member’s team comprising of paramedical, Supportive and Administrative staff. These include matron, 2 Deputy Matrons, 2 night nursing supervisors, 22 staff Nurses & Midwives & 30 aid nurses etc.
In this way not only the Gadap area but suburbs of Karachi and interior of province of Sindh is being served by this institution. The Hospital is serving without any charges at all the only cost they have to bear is that of medication which in needy cases is borne by the hospital. The Doctors trained in this hospital not only are serving the country but serving abroad as well. We are hopeful that one day it will be a prominent and a leading community oriented hospital of the world (Ameen).
